Eyewitness Reports from Radical Women's "The Persistent Power of Socialist Feminism" Conference
San Francisco, Thursday, November 13, 7:00pm
Come and participate in a lively discussion about the decisions and campaigns that came out of the momentous October 3-6 assembly. Those who missed the gathering will hear of the dynamic international panels, speeches and workshops by immigrants, women of color, unionists, queers, and working women -- young and old. People who attended will report on workshops or favorite sessions. We'll discuss ideas on how Bay Area activists can help strengthen the grassroots socialist feminist movement in the midst of Wall Street's melt-down.
The Radical Women meeting features a hearty fall supper, with vegetarian option, served at 6:15pm for a $7.00 donation at New Valencia Hall, 625 Larkin Street, Suite 202, San Francisco (the office is located five blocks from the Civic Center BART station, and on the #19 and #31 Muni bus lines). For more information, call 415-864-1278, or email CalRadicalWomen@yahoo.com or visit www.RadicalWomen.org.
Events are posted as a community service, and do not imply sponsorship or support by CA NOW.
This week, the Prop 8 campaign sent a certified letter to several California businesses, demanding that they withdraw their support for Equality California, a nonprofit organization leading the "No on 8" campaign -- and instead donate to support the Prop 8 campaign. The price of not complying with this letter's demands? Placement on a public blacklist of anti-Prop 8 businesses published by the official "Yes on 8" campaign. Ask the Mormon church to stop funding blackmail and lies.

Michael Giluso and his husband are holding the rally above in Santa Clara County against Prop 8. They recommend to others to do the same in their neighborhood. Their rally last week was included in a piece in the San Jose Mercury News , which was apparently the most emailed story in the whole publication that day. Some of their signs said things like, "Straight and Voting no on 8!" and "No on h8!" The 15 people that occupied that street corner for a few hours could have made a difference in an undecided voter. Whatever you can do to help defeat this dangerous Prop., please take action.
The California NOW PAC has endorsed Heather Fargo in the Sacramento Mayor's race, and Sacramento NOW has been working to help her in the campaign against Kevin Johnson.
Two allegations have repeatedly dogged Kevin regarding inappropriate sexual misconduct with teenage girls.
Violence against women has reached epidemic proportions in many countries in Latin America. Gender-motivated killings of women -- referred to as "femicides" have become common not only in the highly publicized case of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, but in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Equally alarming is the virtually total impunity enjoyed by those that beat, maim and kill women. Notwithstanding this bleak reality, courageous women in many of the most violent countries have organized to develop strategies and actions to bring an end to the violence and impunity.
Join us for a discussion on the issue of violence -- and courage in the face of violence.
