California NOW: Friends of CA NOW

In our work for equality, some go above and beyond in their support. These supporters, the Friends of California NOW, are essential in providing the funds necessary for our ongoing and special projects. From a gift used to update our website, to funding for our groundbreaking videos: A Passion for Justice: 21st Century Feminism and Action for Justice: Making a Difference for Women and Girls, to sponsoring a table at one of our events, or helping us get a new campaign off the ground, these special donors make a difference.

The Friends of CA NOW has many different sponsorship levels with varying benefits. Please see below for the level that is right for you.

SACAJAWEA LEVEL - $500
Sacajawea, a Shoshone woman, was vital to the Lewis and Clark Expedition because she provided geographical guidance and instruction about which plants were edible and useful for survival. She also served as an interpreter to the party. It is believed that the presence of a woman within the group was a signal to other Shoshone that the expedition, while armed, was essentially a peaceful undertaking. Today she is a symbol of the trailblazing that women continue to do.

SUSAN B. ANTHONY LEVEL - $1,000
Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life’s work to women’s suffrage, and also promoted the right of women to own property and keep wages. She was arrested for casting a vote in a presidential election, asserting that the 14th amendment entitled her to vote because it provides that all “persons” born in the U.S. are “citizens” who shall not be denied the “privileges” of citizenship. She represents our work to ensure that all women have basic human and civil rights.

HARRIET TUBMAN LEVEL - $5,000
Harriet Tubman, perhaps the most well-known Underground Railroad conductor, risked her life for the abolitionist movement. She was responsible for escorting hundreds of slaves to freedom, and proudly boasted that she “never lost a single passenger”. She represents our work for freedom and equality across boundaries of gender, race, age, class, religion and sexual orientation.

ALICE PAUL LEVEL - $10,000
Alice Paul began the work for the Equal Rights Amendment, a constitutional guarantee of equal treatment for women that we still have not achieved; she represents the struggles we still face in guaranteeing equality for women.

VICTORIA WOODHULL LEVEL - $15,000
Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to run for the U.S. presidency in 1872; she represents our work to expand women’s equality into all areas of civic and social life.
