"Every one of us every day has
choices to make about the kind of person we are and what we wish to become. You
can decide to be someone who brings people together, or you can fall prey to
those who wish to divide us. You can be someone who educates yourself, or you
can believe that being negative is clever and being cynical is fashionable. You
have a choice." - Hillary Clinton
I’ve
been really encouraged to read so many articles lately about ending “fat talk” and promoting what I call “smart talk.” Let’s use our intuition and education, la-la-ladies…
We
know we’re encouraged to hate our bodies by an industry that wants to sell us products that will supposedly make us love ourselves; we know diets don’t really work in the long term; we know it’s easier to look in the mirror and see the
flaws than all the superfly things going on.
The
most annoying thing to me about this subject is the amount of knowledge every
woman thinks she knows about caloric consumption, fat, and body image, but how
little every woman actually knows about the way her body works. Every woman needs to know what her body
needs in order to make her brain and her heart continue to function at their best.
Have you noticed how many women in their 20s have chronic period and digestive issues? What happened in the 80s/90s when we were kids? Why can’t anyone have a
“normal” period and eat anything without the body reacting with lots of feelings,
either physically or emotionally?
Let’s help each other. Let’s encourage our
folleagues and families to not only stop the fat talk and replace it with smart
talk. Let’s also encourage each
other to read the articles and studies about what is happening in women’s
health research today. Let's emphasize the health over the weight. Let’s be in charge of our own health care, since no one
knows our body better than ourself.
Rather than reading about diets, read about
vitamins, natural ways of healing yourself, ways to stay healthy. That goes for the mental and the
physical. We know it’s all
connected. The real "health care" is the way we care for ourselves.
Any questions? Just ask!
