Save Pretty Bird Woman House!
Pretty Bird Woman House, a shelter for for abused women on a Lakota Sioux reservation in South Dakota, was founded in 2006 by Jackie Brown Otter, and named after her sister who was sexually assaulted and murdered. Recently, the shelter building was ransacked and burned down by arsonists. Since some of their grants depend on being able to provide shelter to victims, they're in danger of losing grant money to continue their work. What an outrage -- a catch 22 policy. Needless to say, they also need to replace all the donated items (computers, furniture, toiletries, etc.) that were lost becasue of the theft and fire. We can't let these women loose their shelter. You can make a donation here.
Oh my goodness. I'm going to spread the word about this. It reminds me of the report that came out by a promenent human rights group that said native american women on reservations were being sexually assaulted by white men who came there for that purpose. This sounds like a cause that could really use additional resources right now. Thanks for letting me know about this.
